Meet our March Alumna Spotlight: Jacquelinne Mejia

Our March Spotlight features Jacquelinne Mejia, a 2024 Mizzou R.A.H. recipient!
Name: Jacquelinne Mejia
Theta Member Class: MC 2008
Degree: Journalism (Emphasis Area: Convergence) with minor in Business
Hometown: Downey, CA
Where you live now: Santa Monica, CA
Where do you work right now/what have you been up to since graduation?
I currently work as the English and Spanish website manager for LA28, the organizing committee responsible for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
In my free time, I am also the CEO and founder of My Resume Squad, a career services business I launched in 2020.

What's your favorite thing about your job?
My favorite thing about my job is being a part of the Olympic and Paralympic Movement and creating content for our audiences in two languages. For a born-and-raised LA girl, getting to work with the organizing committee to bring back the Olympic Games to my hometown for a third time and the Paralympics for the first time is a once-in-a-generation moment I am so honored and proud to be a part of.
As for My Resume Squad, my favorite thing is hearing our clients say how much more confident they feel in presenting their career accomplishments after our team works with them on revamping their resume or providing them with career coaching services.
What's your favorite thing about the city you live in?
I recently moved to Santa Monica so I am still in the exploration phase, but so far my favorite thing is running by the beach either before work or catching the sunset on a run after work. My favorite thing about Southern California as a whole is the diversity of cultures, foods, scenes and climate—you can literally go to the beach and to the mountains in the same day!

What are your future career/life goals?
After my time with the Games is complete, I would like to continue working in sports or entertainment. I would also like to continue expanding my small business and growing my team. As for personal goals, I would like to one day travel to all the continents, visit every NBA stadium and all 50 states (I have visited 23 states so far).
This past summer, you earned the Mizzou R.A.H. award from Mizzou’s Alumni Association! What does this award mean to you?
I was truly honored and humbled to receive the Mizzou R.A.H. Award and be listed among such incredibly talented young alumni who are doing wonderful things in their careers and communities. I enjoyed meeting some of the women from my Mizzou R.A.H. year at a panel we spoke on at the recent Griffiths Leadership Conference this month.
What do you miss most about Mizzou?
What I miss the most about Mizzou is walking around campus and saying hi to all my friends, professors and staff in one place. I always felt like walking around campus brought me such a sense of wonder and possibility of what's next. I also miss attending sports and campus events with my friends!

Do you have a specific favorite Theta memory?
My favorite Theta memories are all the fun socials we would host including Kite & Key and Hayride. I loved inviting my group of friends who weren't Thetas and having them mix in with my Theta friends—and of course I was always a fan of dressing up in the theme of the party. :)
I also really enjoyed studying abroad in Spain and getting to be housemates with two of my Theta sisters during that time!
