Meet Raena Sinclair: Our October Leading Woman
Name: Raena Sinclair
Major: Journalism-Strategic Communications
Hometown: Platte City, Missouri
What are your career/life goals?
After college I would love to continue working as a Video Producer and create videos for a professional women’s athletic team or even produce music videos or movie trailers in the entertainment industry.
What is your favorite part about your major and why did you choose it?
I always knew coming to Mizzou I wanted to be a part of the renowned J-school, but I was more interested in a creative perspective to storytelling. The strategic communications department has created such a safe place for me to express myself and really shoot for the moon when it comes to my creative campaigns. Currently I am working as a video producer on MOJO AD’s Team Sonder on a marketing campaign for NASA’s Artemis II launch!
What organizations or hobbies are you passionate about?
Outside of Theta I am very involved with my creative video internship at Mizzou Athletics. Through Mizzou Athletics I have been given the opportunity to grow as a creative and a leader by creating content for primarily women’s sports. During my time at Mizzou I have also worked as a Summer Welcome Leader and served as a Panhellenic Counselor for the 2023 fall recruitment. If I’m not on campus you can find me overanalyzing 2000s movies or recapping the most recent pop culture news to my roommates.
What was your experience like on the Steering Committee for Homecoming 2024? How did this experience change you?
This year I served on the PR committee for Homecoming and I was personally responsible for all video content posted on our social media! My favorite part of serving on the PR committee was the fact I got to directly collaborate with each committee to promote their individual events like the Blood Drive or our Day of Service and recap them for social media. This experience was so special to me because I had the opportunity to give back and celebrate the Mizzou community, who has given me so much joy throughout my life. Standing on Faurot Field during halftime is a moment I will never forget for the rest of my life!
What does Theta mean to you?
Theta means everything to me! In my first semesters at Mizzou, Theta gave me the confidence to explore everything campus has to offer, knowing I always had this incredible support system to come home to. This homecoming season, I had to disaffiliate, but watching Theta from afar filled me with pride. Seeing my sisters give their all and achieve something incredible, like winning homecoming, made me so proud!
Do you have any advice for underclassmen?
My advice to underclassmen is simple: go for it! I firmly believe that the effort you put into something determines what you get out of it. So, my advice is to give it your all in everything you do! You never know what opportunities are waiting for you unless you try.
Do you have a specific favorite Theta memory?
My favorite Theta memories are definitely the late nights with friends, working on everything from Homecoming to Greek Week. But most recently, winning best actress during Greek Week 2024 was a huge highlight! Being part of skit is one of my absolute favorite things in the world.
